Losing One’s Religion, Freedom or Loss?
A Scholar in Residence Presentation
Friday and Saturday. July 13-14
Temple Har Shalom, 3700 North Brookside Court, Park City
*Please RSVP if you wish to attend the BBQ, (435) 649-2276

As people who participated in and left Orthodox Judaism, Dr. Maeera Shreiber (Associate Professor, University Of Utah), Scholar in Residence, and Rabbi David Levinsky, Ph.D. (Temple Har Shalom, Park City) will discuss how most narratives of losing one’s religion emphasize new freedoms rather the inevitable feelings of loss that leave a person not fully a part of any world. They also suggest that interstitial biblical characters, like Ruth the Moabite, and early Jewish hypostatic theologies, like belief in divine Wisdom, divine Justice and the Logos, offer ways to naturalize this lack of belonging.
Friday, 6:30 p.m., Service followed by Scholar in Residence Address and Q&A. A potluck BBQ follows *

Saturday, 9:30a.m. -non, Scholar in Residence Forum
All are welcome at either or both presentations.
*Please RSVP if you wish to attend the BBQ, (435) 649-2276
